Imagine your worst nightmare...your son has called to say that he is running late driving home yet he is still not home. Then your doorbell rings and a Simsbury police officer is at the door saying that your son was in a serious car accident. As you leave for St. Francis Hospital, the police officer says that his prayers are with you. You don’t remember your drive to St Francis but somehow you got there. When you arrive at the emergency room and introduce yourself, the hospital has no record of your son being there. You are even more worried, confused and scared. Finally, after several minutes (that seem like hours), the staff at St Francis suggests calling Hartford Hospital. When you called them, they say that Mike is there but they would first like you to talk to their hospital chaplain. Your heart drops and your mind can only come to one conclusion on why they want you to talk to the chaplain...

Thankfully, you were wrong but you find out that Mike is in critical condition with a broken jaw and is in a coma from a severe brain injury. From that horrific early morning on February 9th, Mike’s recovery journey begins.

Throughout the months since Mike’s accident, we have been overwhelmed with the generosity and support from many people. Our words could never express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has helped us during this difficult time. Whether it is a word of encouragement or support, a Facebook posting, a music CD, a warm meal, a visit to see Mike, helping us understand the legal, financial or healthcare system or other acts of kindness, as we can say is THANK YOU. I know I’ve said this before but it never fails to amaze me how well a community comes together when a member needs help.

The purpose of this website is to provide you with further updates on Mike’s progress as well as recent photos. This website will be constantly evolving. The website will also include details of upcoming fundraising events to help cover Mike’s ongoing medical expenses. Unfortunately, Mike’s recovery still has a long way to go and insurance does not cover all of his medical expenses. We are also considering renovations to our home to make it more handicap accessible such as adding a first floor shower. A lot of people that I have met since Mike’s accident have all mentioned the same thing…………I would like to help but I don’t know what to do. Well, this is an opportunity to help whether it is attending/ supporting a fundraising event or supplying an idea.

Attached at our Facebook postings, that were made over the past months, describing Mike’s steady progress. Mike’s Facebook page has around 500 members and again we thank everyone for their support and posts.
